A CORNER OF CHINA THAT WILL ALWAYS BE England

Master plan and detailed design for the redevelopment of 30ha of former industrial land to the west of Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It is a new satellite town housing over 25,000 relocated Chinese residents. Uses include commercial activity – facilitating the continuation of previous businesses and introducing new commercial opportunities for residents.

The detailed design concept was based upon historic English market town spatial forms and architectural styles.

The completed development generated considerable interest from China’s Central and Municipal Governments and national TV. Most importantly the scheme has significantly challenged the design ethic for relocation housing and has provided a new benchmark in the provision of quality affordable housing.

Site Area: 30 Ha.

Client: Chengdu Qingyang Industrial Construction and Development Co Ltd.
